what a wonderful world of fashion photography

The wonderful world of fashion photography is always full of surprises and delights. They are on billboards, bus stops, magazines, and buildings all around the world. Admirers of fashion eagerly anticipate what their favourite label will come up with next season and..

Fashion labels use the opportunity through ad campaigns to show-case their best designs. So what makes an outstanding advertising campaign?

I took one look at this Gucci Spring/Summer 2008 advertisement and fell in love. Brilliant lighting, gorgeous clothes, very grande setting and a smiling model!!!  She is obviously enjoying herself and telling you with her expression that you can too!

This photo highlights the fact that male models with 7-year-old schoolboy haircuts are cool, cool and COOL. The models  are not suggesting anything but the statement “We look very suave in these glasses” - no expressions, no nothing, just glasses - the viewer makes up his/her own decisions about the accessory

This advertisement is absolutely dismal. Scarlett Johansson literally turned thousands of potential buyers off this bag

There is nothing worse than an actress turned incapable model. The main focus of the advertisement is to sell a bag, as cheap as it looks in the ad, instead our attention is being diverted to an even uglier pile of mess who looks like she is trapped between awkwardly catering the photographer’s instructions and trying to have that typical, pouty model stare

WHAT A RELIEF that Scarlett Johansson has been fired from Louis Vuitton (finally!) The model looks professional but again, every body misses the bag in replacement by the model. The bag looks shabby, but okay, I can take it, it’s a Louis Vuitton after all, so I divert my attention to the other 90% of the ad only to see what an otherwise beautiful woman with her butt and bosom out lying on a red car. Wake up, sophisticated sluts don’t exist!! This is downright degrading

Is it a young woman grabbing her breasts? What has that got to do with Esprit

Is it her impeccably cut hair? What has that got to do with Esprit

Is it a photographer advertising a portrait exhibition? Maybe.. from the look of the minimalistic theme and focus on the subject

Or I wonder is it the dress? If you can see how the whole advertisement revolves around the product

The typical young people living a fail-proof live ad by Esprit - it’s downright insulting to suggest to young people that nothing goes wrong in life. When I was a young teenager and had absolutely no sense of style, I used to look up to Esprit and say wow the people in the ad look so cool. And what do youngsters get these days?! A boob grabbing person

On a lighter note

This is one of my favourite advertisements and you can tell that a model’s role only extends to a certain stage of an advertising campaign, judging by Scarlett Johansson’s dismal performance with Louis Vuitton and her success with Calvin Klein.

She is beautiful, she is confident, she is in love, she is successful, but she is humble and happy. This ad makes every woman want to be in her position. Perhaps buying a bottle of Eternity Moment may help???

As my organisational behaviour lecturer once said “customer service is not just about selling a product, it is selling impeccable service, impeccable appearance and good feelings”

This ad leaves a good feeling, it is impeccably presented and inevitably it makes me think the perfume smells like paradise too
