According to an article published by www.telegraph.co.uk, hair length can be viewed as a useful “economic barometer”.
“People enjoy fewer material pleasures in periods of recession, so they want more visual pleasures and there’s more variation among short haircuts than long,” cultural economist and author Susanna Sällsträm-Matthews told the site

Last but not least/the one and only/still my favourite model Gemma Ward, this hairstyle suits her so well there’s something so unique about her face shape that I can’t pinpoint it’s like the way her face is connected from the cheekbones to her chin is so… unchiselled, round but skinny at the same time.. The other barometer is skirt length, in tough times hem lines come down. I don’t believe either but I do shorter cuts but just not Agyness Deyn’s ‘ironic’ bowl cut!

That is so interesting, and kinda counterintuitive, because shorter hairstyles require so much more maintenance/more frequent cuts/more $!
